basic au information
Long ago, in the Allagan Empire, Omega descended. Like Mark XII, this Omega could give birth - and one of its' children, one gifted with a soul as part of Omegas' grand experiments, was given to the Allagan Empire. This child was named Alpupus - Alpha Cocoon.
Of course, Allag Fucked Up. Amon, in his wisdom, promised Omega that he could improve Alpupus. Instead, he tore the beast apart and placed it in a shell that looked like him, seeing if he could use it as a weapon purely for Allag. To prove that he stood dominant over even Omega. However, when the improved Alpupus, now called Theta Weapon, to the adoring public?
It didn't listen to command, nor seemed to display any free will any more. In his anger, he dismissed the robot north, to get rid of it. Once Omega found this out, it was to rip the Empire apart... but at the same time, the Calamity which ended the Era began. Saving Eorzea.
And since Alpupus was far from Allag, he was simply buried and fell into a deep slumber, memories fading.
Eventually, he was found by a family on the outskirts of Garlemald, and mistaken for just a lost man. But his talents and oddities (at least, the helpful ones like seeming to never need sleep) made this family keep him - naming him Nero, and pretending he was their child.
Nero didn't know he was an automation, nor did he know other people worked differently. Like canon, he worked his way up from nothing - even if his talents came from his birth. (Something that, once Nero found out, made him very uncomfortable.) After the adventures in the Crystal Tower and the World of Darkness, Nero found himself with rather unhidable beetle-like wings.
Though he also doesn't like showing it off, he can shift to being a giant robot. He also has the power to create, though it's very crude.
Unlike canon Nero, he's prone to wearing gloves. Like canon Nero, however, he's also prone to eyewear - because his eyes flicker ever so slightly blue, as do his fingers.
Omega has not informed Nero of their relationship nor acted differently to him, even if Nero is now aware he's both a robot and some form of Weapon by that point. (I'm not taking him from ficverse right now because that's. A Mess.)
